Data Architect, Online Retailer

Our client is one of the biggest online retailers worldwide with annual revenue of $1 billion. Over the years we helped the client develop web-portals, mobile apps, delivery control systems, staff management tools, data storage, and much more. The systems we’ve built together are in operation 24/7, contributing to the client’s success.

DataArt provides consultation and development of the software for the client in both areas of their activities: online sales and creation of the cross-functional retail platform.

The goal of the project is to create a modern product and supplier management system for an online retailer from the ground up. The system will focus on scalability to be able to manage an ever-expanding range of thousands of products sold in their online shop over multiple geographies, with composability and flexibility, data consistency as a master data system, usability, and lower operational costs.

Responsibilities

• Work with business leaders and teams to collect and translate information requirements into data
• Build, optimize and maintain conceptual and logical database models
• Use industry-accepted data architecture principles and standards for modeling, stored procedures, replication, regulations, and security, among others, to meet technical and business goals
• Streamline data flows and models; improve consistency, quality, accessibility, and security; unify data architecture; remove unnecessary costs; and, optimize database activity across company needs
• Updating documentation and Jira as work progresses

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong SQL skills
• Experience with PostgeSQL, Oracle, PL/SQL, Python/Unix scripting skills
• Experience in building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
• Familiarity with basic graphical modeling approaches, tools
• Attention to detail, problem-solving skills
• Team player
• A methodical approach. For example, instinctively break big tasks into smaller, logically sequenced pieces
• Bias towards documentation and regular, succinct communication
• Comfortable in an uncertain environment, where not all answers are known upfront
• Able to set clear expectations assertively and tactfully
