Assignment

Under the supervision of the REACH GIS Officer, the REACH GIS Assistant is responsible for the processes and outputs related to spatial data processing and mapping in the country. She/he will support all GIS and mapping activities with REACH team in country and in Geneva.

 

FUNCTIONS

 

GIS activities

  • Support overall GIS activities in Ukraine.
  • In close coordination with the GIS Officer, support the development of databases, maps and web platforms for REACH and its partners.
  • Support the assessment team in the collection and management of spatial datasets, verification, cleaning, and updating of the collected data.
  • Monitor the accuracy of collected data. It might be necessary to assist technically during trainings within capacity building program.

 

Data Visualization activities

  • Support the overall development of tools and dashboard to visualize REACH spatial data in an interactive manner using web-mapping tools.
  • Under the overall guidance of the assessment team, be responsible for transforming static REACH products into dashboards that can be shared with external partners.

 

Confidentiality and Data Protection

  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and processes.
  • Take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.

 

Qualifications:

  • Full working proficiency in English required;
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent professional experience in GIS, Cartography, Geodesy, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems or any relevant discipline;

 

Essential minimum technical qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro or QGIS;
  • Understanding of basic cartography concepts and map design principles;
  • Data processing and analysis experience using Excel / R / Python (pandas) / Tableau;

 

Desirable technical qualifications:

  • Previous experience with mobile data collection tools (ODK, KOBO, Ona) and understanding of questionnaire design workflow;
  • Experience with any web-mapping tools (ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, CARTO, Map Server, Leaflet, Open Layers) is a strong asset;
  • Experience in the area of web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python) is a strong asset.
  • 1-2 years of experience in GIS field, preferably in humanitarian context is an asset;
  • Presence of any relevant portfolio (GitHub account, web based-dashboard, OSM mapper profile, published maps) is a strong asset;
  • Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to think creatively in terms of tool and process development and optimization;
  • Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing needs and responsibilities;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Familiarity with the aid system and understanding of donor and governmental requirements is an asset;
  • Experience in international team is an asset;
  • Aspiration to work in humanitarian field;
  • Ability to learn new concepts/build technical skills quickly.
