Communications Officer

Location: Sloviansk with frequent travels to Kyiv and PIN's areas of intervention

Starting date: ASAP

Duration: 6 months with further prolongation

Background:

People in Need (PIN) has been active in Ukraine since early August 2014 and the humanitarian programs have been rapidly expanding since then. Currently, PIN is one of the major humanitarian actors in Eastern Ukraine while providing neutral and independent humanitarian aid to conflict-affected people. So far PIN has implemented number of multi-purpose cash grants, Shelter, Protection, Livelihoods and WASH interventions and supported more than 2 millions vulnerable populations, including IDPs, returnees and host communities in both urban and rural locations. PIN's main donors in Ukraine currently include ECHO, OFDA/USAID, DFID, UNCHR, as well as GAC IHA.

About the role:

Communication Officer is responsible for leading PIN's visibility and contributing to PIN Ukraine's communications under the supervision of the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator. S/he cooperates closely with the Deputy Country Director, Emergency Coordinator, Technical Leads and Heads of Projects. S/he coordinates systematically with the Advocacy and Communications Team of the Ukraine mission, also supporting advocacy efforts with communications outputs.

Main responsibilities:

• Collects information from the field and from programs, and develops communication outputs (articles, photos, videos, supports organization of events, etc.);
• Ensures the consistency of PIN's visibility through the development of communications guidelines and visibility templates, shares related information with country programs, and ensures that guidelines are followed;
• Disseminates and enforces observation of the Communication Rules for PIN Ukraine mission for both GCA and NGCA;
• Acts as focal point for Visibility activities, including training and supervision of the visibility support staff, and validation of all visibility for PIN and for projects;
• Develops internal communication tools as well as external communication about PIN's programs (leaflets, factsheets);
• Acts as the field-focal point for organization of the international journalists visits interested in PIN's activities and the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine, who visit the mission (including logistical arrangements, such as travel permits etc.), in coordination with programs;
• Closely cooperates with PIN Advocacy and Communications Department and supports advocacy activities as needed;
• Supports the development of PIN Ukraine's Communication Strategy and Action Plan in coordination with Advocacy and Communications Coordinator and HQ CAD;

Qualification Requirements:

• MA degree, or BA degree in public relations, communication, journalism required;
• At least 1 year of professional experience in public relations, communication, journalism;
• Ability to design and plan media and communication activities and ensure timely implementation;
• Demonstrated ability to write stories and reports, take photos, videos and communicate or
• ally with accuracy and professionalism;
• Good knowledge of social media tools;
• Graphic design skills desirable;
• Advanced PC skills (Word Processing. Formatting. Tables. Presentations. Graphics. Multimedia. Spreadsheets. Databases);
• Native Ukrainian and Russian, advanced English language.
