COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSISTANT

Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-profit, non-political and non religious humanitarian NGO. PUI started humanitarian intervention in Ukraine in February 2015. The mission's objectives are to improve or restore equitable access to primary health care for the local and displaced population affected by the military conflict and to improve their living conditions by covering their fundamental needs.

 Place of work -  Kyiv with regular trips to Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region.

Qualifications

Education Degree: Master's degree (specialist’s degree) in communication, journalism, or public relations 

Work experience: Confirmed user of social media. At least 6 months at the same position.

Previous work experience for an NGO would be a strong asset.

Language Skills: Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and English (C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Knowledge & skills: Excellent writing skills in English, Russian and Ukrainian. Excellent translation and interpretation skills. Skills in producing communication materials.  Good critical thinking; Ability to synthesis a wide scope of information. Solid organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Sense of initiative and creativity highly appreciated. 

Interest for politics and questions related to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office. Good knowledge of social media tools. Graphic design skills appreciated (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).

 Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. To support the development and implementation of the communication strategy of PUI in Ukraine in order to optimize the impact of the organization’s activities.

Carrying out communication activities to broaden and strengthen general public’s knowledge about PUI in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis. This includes:

Update and actively use social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Supporting the mission in all external communication activities undertaken by PUI in Ukraine, in line with the communication strategy developed by the organization and donors’ requirements. This includes:

Producing contents from the field, writing human interest stories, take photos, etc., where opportunities are identified, and/or as requested.

Giving support in preparing digital long format such as individual portraits, videos, pictures and maps to give external audience a better understanding of the humanitarian needs in Ukraine;

 Managing  the organization of communication events in Ukraine and identify potential and relevant communication events/initiatives undertaken by other actors, in which PUI Ukraine could participate or join

Developing communication materials and disseminate them (weekly newsletter, quarterly newsletter, flyers…);

Support the program teams in the creation of communication materials;

Other tasks in line with the communication strategy, as requested by the Director and/or by HQ Communication Department 

Reviewing all publications produced by the organization in order to ensure that PUI branding and communication guidelines are uniformly and consistently followed across program implementation.

Ensuring the integration of communications in the mission’s activities and programming by giving support to staff 

Ensuring that the information is available, and up to date to share communication material about PUI programs/activities in Ukraine.

Supervise the set up and maintenance of a database of professional photos and videos related to PUI activities.

 2.Carry out public relations and liaising tasks

Liaising with other communication focal points from external agencies, including international and national humanitarian actors, media, local authorities and other stakeholders and updating regularly a contact list of relevant partners. 

Manage media relations, support the delivery of press opportunities – press releases, radio and televised interviews and accompany photographer and journalists in the field

Addressing external requests for information sent by external actors;

Supporting the Director in liaising with national authorities such as relevant ministries or government bodies/agencies. This includes:

Identifying relevant contact persons/focal points among these authorities;

Assisting the Director in setting up meetings with them and discussing relevant topics in line with PUI overall strategy in Ukraine (including attendance to these meetings with the Director and assisting him/her with interpretation)

Acting as a focal point between PUI and these authorities/ministries/agencies/bodies to address their requests, draft memoranda of understanding, follow-up on partnerships, and to carry out other relevant duties in line with this task. 

Following up evaluation of the humanitarian and political situation in Ukraine and share relevant information to the Director.

Work with the Communications officer at HQ to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns

 3. Other tasks

The Communication and Public Relations Assistant may be requested from time to time to provide support in translating internal documents from English into Ukrainian/Russian or from Ukrainian/Russian into English.
