Analyst to KSE Corporate Governance Stream

Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) – a flagman educational and research institution, the well-established and unchallenged leader in economics in Ukraine – has recently established a Corporate Governance Stream (the Stream), a think tank to promote better corporate governance of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Ukraine by providing high-quality research, evidence-based policy advice, and relevant training.

The Stream’s team is led by Dr Andriy Boytsun, widely recognised as a leading corporate governance authority in Ukraine, and includes established corporate governance professionals, such as Dmytro Yablonovskyi and Oleksandr Lysenko.

The Stream is pleased to invite applicants for the position of Analyst.

The position is open for analysts, preferably with a background in corporate governance, regulatory analysis, corporate finance, or industry analysis.

The position offers a competitive salary and an opportunity to further develop your understanding of, expertise on, and skills in corporate governance, research, and policy analysis; to contribute to the corporate governance of SOEs in Ukraine; and to gain exposure in the community of Ukrainian SOEs and international financial institutions.

Candidates will be drawn from sectors ranging from the academia to non-governmental organisations, business, government, and the media.

The analyst will be based in Kyiv, with a flexible working environment and possible for working remotely when necessary. The employment will begin as soon as agreed by the parties.

Main responsibilities

Research

• review corporate governance literature and best practice;
• collect, compile, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on corporate governance in Ukraine and internationally;
• assess gaps in the available data and propose ways to address such gaps.

Policy analysis

• perform national and cross-national policy analysis of corporate governance;
• analyse the impact of corporate governance policies;
• identify gaps in existing policy analysis and propose how to fill such gaps;
• develop evidence-based policy recommendations.

Drafting and liaison

• contribute to teamwork on corporate governance publications and reports;
• draft notes and briefs on corporate governance matters for senior decision-makers;
• liaise and collaborate with other research fellows of the Stream working on related issues;
• liaise with other think tanks, non-governmental organisations, and national authorities;
• communicate the Stream’s research findings in media;
• respond to internal or external requests for information;
• present the findings at conferences, workshops, and other events;
• represent the Stream and KSE at relevant working groups and expert teams.

Ideal candidate profile

Academic background

• A graduate degree in economics, business administration, law, or policy analysis.

Professional background

• good organisational skills, ability to work effectively with minimum supervision, and stress resistance;
• discipline, attention to detail, and accuracy with numbers;
• strong analytical skills (strong quantitative skills will be a plus);
• experience with research-based policy analysis (including studies and internships);
• excellent drafting skills and ability to prepare reports with minimum supervision;
• excellent knowledge of basic software, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint (knowledge of statistical software such as R, Stata, or SPSS will be a plus);
• client focus, tact, and diplomatic sensitivity;
• work experience in one of the above areas will be a plus.

Languages and communication skills

• The candidate will be fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and English.
• The candidate will be able to draft notes and reports in the above languages.
• Good communication and public speaking skills will be a plus.

• Shortlisted candidates will be asked to undergo an interview with the Stream’s management and a written exercise.
• Contract duration: one-year fixed term appointment (after a successful two-month probationary period), with the possibility of renewal.
