Translator

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. We offer assistance to people based on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. MSF Ukraine is looking for:

TRANSLATOR (Sievierodonetsk)

Main duties: 

• Performing professional written and oral interpretation and translation activities, translating discussions, meetings from / to English language into Ukrainian/Russian, as requested.
• Ensuring high degree of confidentiality for medical, neutrality and administrative activities.
• Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
• Keep respect towards beneficiaries, collaborators, authorities, military factions and staff participating in discussions.
• Performing administrative tasks required by supervisor (arrangement of meetings, minute taking). 
• Providing necessary feedback to supervisor following discussions and negotiations. Assisting with report writing (CF and Government required reports).
• Ensuring that all meeting minutes are recorded and that translated documents are properly filed.
• Inform international staff about local customs, tradition, etc., that will help understand better the context and better communicate.
• Depending on the supervisor’s specialization and the needs of the respective department, establishing and maintaining professional contacts with relevant authorities and communicating MSF’s messages to MoH counterparts and authorities (specifically related to patient care).
• Ensuring that supervisor is aware of cultural nuances when dealing with MoH authorities and counterparts to ensure a good working relationship.
• Providing briefing on effective methods of culturally sensitive communication and informing international staff about local customs, tradition, etc. that will help in better communication and understanding of the context.

Requirements:

Education:

• University degree preferred Translator degree (English).
• Professional Diploma in translation.

Experience:

• At least two years of previous working experience, preferred within MSF or other NGOs.
• Experience in written and oral translations and performing administrative tasks.

Languages:

Must be fluent in: 

• English  
• Ukrainian
• Russian

Computer skills:

Good computer skills (MS word, Power Point, Outlook)

Job location: 10 Fedorenka Str., Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk Region.

Type of agreement: Civil law agreement three to six months – Open for extension.
