Protection Officer (Maternity leave period)

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

DRC Ukraine is looking for a highly qualified Protection Officer for it’s Area office based in Mariupol, with travel to field locations and DRC-DDG office in Slovyansk/Severodonetsk.

The Protection Officer is going to be part of the DRC-DDG Protection Team in Mariupol and will work under the management, guidance and supervision of DRC’s national Protection Manager. The Protection Officer will support the Protection Manager in timely and quality implementation of protection activities special focus on Community Based Protection.

 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Implementation of protection activities

  • Develop a work plan with assigned work responsibilities for the team members. 
  • Ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan.
  • Implement Protection activities, with a particular focus on Community Based Protection as a priority field in Protection Programme. 
  • Ensure timely support to conflict-affected communities. 
  • Develop community profiles as part of CBI activities. 
  • Support the team in organisation and delivery of training in psychosocial support for conflict-affected population and training on inclusion for children and adults.
  • Contribute to the process of developing tools, guidelines and SOPs relevant for protection work.
  • Regular monitoring of all project activities and leading the team in carrying out monitoring and evaluation exercises. 
  • Contribute to the development of information leaflets, brochures for awareness-raising activities.

Internal/External Coordination and Representation

  • Establish and maintain coordination with local authorities, local and international NGOs when required.
  • Represent projects in relevant coordination meetings when requested.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on programme relevant issues.
  • Ensure integration with other DRC sectors.
  • Taking the lead to advocate the community issue with relevant stakeholders. 

Reporting & Accountability

  • Collect and maintain project data ensuring the highest standards of data protection and confidentiality. Insert the collected information into the database when needed.
  • Contribute to preparing weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors.
  • To support the Protection Manager in developing high quality and timely reports for DRC and donors within agreed deadlines.
  • Comply with all relevant DRC-DDG policies and procedures, particularly with respect to child protection, the code of conduct, and security.

About you

We expect you to have at least 1 year of working experience in Protection programmes or social work, supporting communities as part of local or international organizations; graduate degree in social work, law, psychology or equivalent.

Required experience and competencies

  • Strong experience in leading and implementation of Community-Based Activities (e.g. CBI);
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience designing and delivering training to various audiences, preferably focusing on Community Based Protection activities;
  • Experience in organizing Focus Group Discussions (FGD);
  • Good writing and analytical skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills;
  • Good knowledge in conflict management;
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude and resilience;
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and good command of English – both oral and written.

We offer

Contract length: till 30.12.2021 with possibility of extension based on available funding.

Level H

Start date: 26.04.2021
