Ciklum is looking for a Head of Business Digitisation & Automation to join our team.

Introduction:

As part of this transformation, Ciklum IT is establishing a critical new role, the Head of Business Digitisation & Automation.

Role Purpose:

Working within Ciklum IT, the Head of Business Digitisation & Automation is responsible for leading the creation and delivery of all business information systems, products and platforms that digitise and automate Ciklum’s internal business processes and enable delivery of Ciklum’s engagements to our clients. This remit spans Ciklum’s business front-to-back and will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of senior business stakeholders and their functions, activities and change initiatives. The Head of BDA will drive the transformation and continuous improvement of the BDA function, its people (40-50+ people) and ways of working, and the solutions, products and platforms it creates and delivers. This is a senior IT leadership role that must provide strategic leadership and engineering expertise to an existing function, transform this function and continue to operationally deliver.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and maintaining a collaborative and trusted partnership between the Ciklum IT department, specifically the Business Digitisation & Automation (BDA) function, and wider Ciklum business departments
  • Ensuring Ciklum’s information systems, products and platforms support business goals and needs, are stable and resilient, and are secure and legally compliant
  • Proactively identifying, validating and proposing realistic opportunities to leverage existing solutions and new technologies to enrich existing or generate new business value
  • Providing expert application and engineering thought leadership to the VP IT, Ciklum IT department and senior business leaders by maintaining detailed knowledge of Ciklum’s current systems, products and platforms, its IT strategy, and industry trends and best practices, then identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • Contributing to the formulation and revision of Ciklum’s IT strategy, specifically the BDA components, as a key part of Ciklum’s wider business strategy
  • Championing Ciklum’s IT strategy, both within the BDA function and across Ciklum as a whole, evangelising its business benefits, ensuring it is understood and executable, and feeding back where issues arise
  • Jointly translating the BDA components of the IT strategy into executable plans, working closely with the Ciklum IT Planning & Delivery function, peer IT functions (IT Infrastructure & Operations, Information Security) and business functions
  • Planning the necessary resources required to deliver the BDA components of the IT strategy and portfolio, including: financial planning and budgeting; talent, resource and recruitment planning; training, development and succession planning; sourcing and procurement planning; application, technology and platform planning
  • Ensuring that the technical delivery of the Ciklum IT strategy and portfolio is feasible and realistic, technically sound and planned, and is executed by the BDA function in a highly collaborative, coordinated and controlled manner
  • Establishing a high-performing BDA function of 40-50+ application and engineering technical professionals. Hiring, developing, motivating and inspiring them to deliver at their best at a sustainable pace. Establishing and executing all incentives and activities necessary to achieve this, including career plans, objectives, performance reviews, mentoring and coaching
  • Establishing and ensuring professional application management practices exist across all of Ciklums information systems, products and platforms, including planning and budgeting; support; monitoring and incident management; deployment and release management; capacity, performance and availability management; continuous improvement; knowledge management
  • Establishing Ciklum IT Centres of Excellence that will provide leadership, guidance and governance to citizen development, technology innovation and self-service across Ciklum business functions, and driving their adoption. As a minimum this will include Robotic Process Automation, Business Process Automation, Business Intelligence
  • Leading the modernisation and technical transformation of Ciklum’s legacy custom-built software solutions and development practices — e.g. from monolithic to microservice architectures, harnessing automated quality engineering, continuous integration/continuous delivery practices, DevOps and DevSecOps
  • Establishing and driving a culture of learning and knowledge sharing within and across the BDA function, wider IT department (in collaboration with peer ITD Heads of Infrastructure & Operations, Information Security etc) and co-creating communities of practice with Ciklum’s digital consultancy business (the “front office”), Ciklum Digital
  • Establishing and maturing delivery and operations ways of working within the BDA function and with the wider Ciklum IT department. Embracing and integrating Agile practices and methodologies at a multi-team and multi-product level with program, project and portfolio management practices and methodologies to balance delivery efficiency and empowerment with IT governance and control
  • Ensuring the selection, technical implementation and ongoing operational delivery of Ciklum’s SaaS and cloud solutions and platforms is fit-for-purpose
  • Establishing and maintaining highly effective relationships with Ciklum’s key software and service vendors and partners, in conjunction with and under the governance of the Head of Planning & Delivery, and driving maximum business value and innovation from these
  • Technically assuring the activities and deliverables of BDA vendors and partners to ensure quality and success
  • Ensuring the BDA function (people, activities, initiatives, solutions) adhere to corporate IT governance and processes, including risk management, vendor management, change management, release management

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years professional IT experience across a number of roles
  • At least 5 years of hands-on professional software development experience
  • At least 3 years managing and leading teams of 20+ people
  • At least 3 years managing and leading software development or application management activities and professionals
  • Experience in technical delivery of several large scale projects within organizations with multiple dependencies across teams
  • Competent, confident and enjoy hiring, developing (including performance reviewing, career path creation, objective setting and planning, mentoring), motivating and inspiring highly technical teams to deliver at their best at a sustainable pace
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Agile practices and methodologies at a multi-team and multi-product level, program and project management practices and methodologies, and the wisdom to understand when and how to use them separately or together
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of establishing modern software development practices and methods, including quality engineering, continuous integration, continuous delivery, DevOps, DevSecOps
  • Knowledge and experience of modern security, integration, data management and business & robotic process automation solutions, platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge and experience of establishing professional application management practices, including planning and budgeting; support; monitoring and incident management; deployment and release management; capacity, performance, availability management; continuous improvement; knowledge management
  • Knowledge and experience of the selection, implementation and ongoing operational delivery of modern SaaS solutions and platforms within a wider integrated system of commercial cloud solutions and custom-built software solutions
  • Knowledge and experience of working closely with software and service vendors and partners to assure received services and drive maximum business value and innovation from existing services and investments
  • Knowledge and experience of adhering and contributing to corporate IT governance and processes, including risk management, vendor management, change management, release management. An understanding and recognition of the importance of corporate IT governance, its purpose, and the wisdom to know how to deliver effectively within it
  • Experienced and confident in establishing effective, respectful and trusted partnerships with senior managers across a mid-to-large organisation, understanding their drivers, challenges and needs and enacting positive change to address these
  • Experienced and confident in negotiating with challenging stakeholders, colleagues and vendors, resolving disagreements and issues, and positively influencing outcomes
  • Experienced in rapidly analysing complex situations, environments or systems and forming an informed, evidence-based assessment and recommendation in business or technical terms, with consideration for risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and benefits
  • Experienced and confident in communicating complex concepts and issues clearly and succinctly to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Fluent spoken and excellent written English
  • Practical knowledge of the following platforms, solutions and technology stacks is highly desirable and beneficial:
    • Salesforce
    • Atlassian (JIRA, JIRA Service Management, Confluence)
    • Taleo
    • Sisense (or equivalent enterprise BI)
    • Workato (or equivalent iPaaS)
    • Automation Anywhere (or equivalent RPA technology)
    • Ms Dynamics 365 Business Central and/or Ms Navision
    • JavaScript, PHP, MySQL
    • Kubernetes (or equivalent container technology)
    • Azure (or equivalent cloud technology)

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Computing Science, Engineering or IT degree
  • Additional IT professional qualifications beneficial
