Middle DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer, Online Genealogy Service

The client is an international company that provides an online genealogy service that helps its clients understand their past and family history.

The project’s goal is to create a scalable platform for the further expansion of the client's business.

The existing solution consists of the Windows .Net stack, SQL Server, and a new microservices architecture based on Kubernetes, NodeJS, and Postgres. The project uses lean-agile approaches in the product development process.

The DevOps engineer will help transform and improve the existing DevOps processes and ensure that all products, services, and projects are developed, delivered, and supported in accordance with the business requirements.

Note that we hire specialists not to the project, but to the company. If the project is over, or you become uncomfortable in it, you can discuss a transition to another project.

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in the DevOps area
• Strong knowledge of Docker
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes management, ideally on premise
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools such as Puppet, Ansible (or similar), Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch, Jenkins, Nagios, etc.
• Experience using version control systems (Git or similar)
• Proficiency working with Linux and all layers of the networking stack
• Strong knowledge of at least one programming language, a desire to learn more
• Experience with large-scale production systems and technologies (e.g. load balancing, monitoring, distributed systems, micro services, and configuration management)
• Expertise in troubleshooting and performance tuning of complex, high-traffic, distributed applications
• Experience of designing and executing small to medium scale system automation projects with strong autonomy
• Troubleshooting, bug scoping, and good problem-solving skills
• Performance and scalability testing
• Good spoken English

Additional Competencies

• Knowledge of and experience with relational database administration
• Understanding of how to use different databases in different conditions
• Skills in traffic load balancing, filtering, and DDoS mitigation tools
• Experience working with PostgreSQL and using it in multiple environments and/or regions
• Cloud experience (Amazon Web Services, Digital Ocean, Vultr, Packet, etc.)
• Knowledge of development methodologies, particularly with Agile/Scrum
